  • Path disgrace

Sir, What a disgrace the footpath from Cogges Museum to the Cogges Museum visitors' car park is in Witney. What must these visitors think? The footpath is overgrown with vegetation, low tree branches, lots of dogs' mess and lots of litter (mainly from the nearby Tesco Express store) and an old brick shed in the school grounds has some distasteful graffiti on the walls. read more

  • Cramped plan

Sir, Where is our acre of grass? The Marriotts Close planning application has now been received from Simons Developments and it appears to follow the WODC development brief. Simons have been very thorough with the detail and packed in 656 parking spaces, 185 dwellings, 16 retail shopping units and associated services and as an afterthought of an acre of new public park. read more

  • Clever scheme

Sir, We were pleased to see Neil Pugh's letter published about the harebrained pedestrianisation scheme of part of Black Bourton Road in Carterton, then on page nine we read an article by Samantha Simpson when she interviewed Phil Scott, Carterton's town mayor. read more

  • An honour

Sir, I, too, know of that same man, who has given 60 years of his life, to the welfare of Far East POWs. read more

  • Ill-thought-out

Sir, I went to the "exhibition" for the proposed plans for the Marriotts Close site last week. I was told by the developer there that the plans had been drawn up to the brief of West Oxfordshire Council. This means David Harvey and his fellow councillors have not taken on board the 4,000+ people's views that one acre of land should be green more so, they have obviously decided that our views are not important over their own! Also the 160+ houses they plan to build on the site are to the wishes of the council. read more

  • Marriotts: 'a disaster'

Sir, I have lived in Witney since April 1970, and have had connections with the town for upwards of 60 years. Many changes have taken place in that time, some good, some not so good, but the development of Marriotts Close as proposed by Simons Developments will be an absolute disaster for this lovely town of ours. read more
