THE number of cruelty convictions against pet owners has fallen by more than 100.
In 2005 the RSPCA secured 126 convictions in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
The charity's latest figures show there were only 24 convictions last year.
Spokesman Sophie Wilkinson said the reason for the drop of convictions was believed to be due to deterrents in the new Animal Welfare Act.
In the same period the number of offenders cautioned fell from 12 in 2005 to seven cases in 2006.
There were no figures for Oxfordshire separately.
