County votes for 3.8% tax rise

OXFORDSHIRE County Council today approved a 3.8 per cent rise in its share of the annual council tax bill.

The increase will see taxpayers give the county council an extra £40 a year for an average band D household, taking the bill from £1,049 to £1,089 a year.

The total bill faced by householders will have a city, district or parish levy, to go on top, where applicable, and the Thames Valley Police precept.

As part of the budget, the Conservative- controlled council voted to borrow £25m to pump into refurbishing local libraries, museums and youth centres.

The council tax rise was a slight reduction on last year's four per cent increase. The budget was approved by 35 votes to 14.
