OXFORDSHIRE drivers could be quids-in, thanks to a new advertising service.

Car Quids, which pays car owners to display adverts on their cars, launches in Oxford next month.

According to company founder and Oxford University graduate Viraj Ratnalikar, motorists can make up to £250 during a two- or three-month campaign.

After registering on the firm’s website carquids.com, car owners are matched with a brand which wants to advertise on their car, based on where and when they drive.

Car Quids, which has been operating in London and other cities, is expanding to the rest of the UK.

It was featured on BBC’s One Show earlier this year.

Mr Ratnalikar came up with the idea during a pub lunch.

Watching passing London taxi cabs and realising how many carried advertisements, he vowed to try the same thing with privately owned cars.

He said: “I’m really excited to launch Car Quids in Oxford.

“We have run successful advertising campaigns in other cities, where some of our drivers have completely eliminated their vehicle running costs.

“It’s nice to now bring something back to Oxford, after having spent three years living in the city as a student”.

Mr Ratnalikar says existing customers have used the cash to offset motoring costs, such as insurance and repairs.

To support the Oxford branch, the firm will run a three-month advertising campaign across the city.
