College honours top architect
Distinguished: Simon Shew
Distinguished: Simon Shew

A prominent architect has been honoured by one of Oxford University's most distinguished colleges.

Simon Shew, former senior partner at Oxford-based Gray Baynes & Shew Architects, attended a reception and ceremony in the Sutro Room at Trinity College where a bust of him was unveiled.

The event, hosted by the Fellows of Trinity College, and led by a senior fellow Bryan Ward-Perkins, marked Mr Shew's 40-year association with the college as its architect, during which time he has been responsible for the care and conservation of its historic buildings.

Mr Shew said: "Since we first carried out a college survey in 1952, we have carried out 350 projects.

"We have always had the interests of the college at heart. I hope to continue working for Trinity College for at least ten more years in my role as historic buildings consultant."

Mr Shew originally joined the company in 1968 and retired from full-time work last year, but has continued to work as a historic buildings consultant.
