POLICE and Crime Commissioner candidate Patience Tayo Awe found herself running late for the Oxford debate featuring all the contenders on Monday evening.
Advised not to take a car anywhere near the city centre, the independent decided to take the train from Reading. But she says two were delayed.
Staring down adversity, she seized the opportunity and began canvassing commuters.
One woman was obviously swayed, as she offered Patience a lift directly to Oxford Town Hall.
Ms Awe arrived at the hustings but the impatient panel had already started... half an hour earlier.
During his time as hard-headed leader of Oxfordshire County Council, Keith Mitchell gained something of a fearsome reputation for his frank views.
Yet since he stepped down, has Mr Mitchell been exploring his softer side? Whereas once his tweets were a barrage of political missives, this was a recent offering, complete with cute pic.
“Missing cat in East Adderbury. If you live near the Pickled Ploughman and see a lost black & white cat, call xxxxxx”.
One of our reporters gave Colin Cook, the city council’s board member for city development, a call this week.
He was impressed by Mr Cook’s diligence when it emerged he had answered the phone while having his hair cut.
Fortunately Mr Cook didn’t put himself through the ordeal of explaining complex points of planning policy while having someone wield scissors around his head.
The appointment may have had something to do with an engagement later in the week – the Oxford Preservation Trust’s gala award ceremony which he attended on Wednesday.
Global phenomenon and the man behind Gangnam Style, Psy, has found a fan in an unusual place.
Legendary former world middleweight and super-middleweight boxing champion Chris Eubank, pictured, swapped the front row of sporting events for a top seat at the Oxford Union to hear the South Korean icon speak yesterday.
Mr Eubank said: “You’ve got a very good look and the movies is what you should be going into. “Will you do movies?”
Psy did not reveal his future plans, but Eubank insisted: “You should!”
We hope Mr Eubank will follow up the support by backing other YouTube hits.
