Sir – I would like to thank the many people who were involved in making the Against Breast Cancer Witney In The Pink event so special again this year.
In spite of the weather the community spirit came to the fore and people still turned out to support us.
The shop windows all looked fantastic. Many thanks to everyone who made such a great effort with their displays.
The town looked great and the atmosphere was really buzzing thanks to all the entertainers who so willingly gave up their time. Thank you to all of them.
Thanks also to Laughing Stock for donating the balloons and to mayor Janette Baker who opened the event and judged the best window display and best-dressed shop staff.
Thanks also to Abingdon town crier Penny Clover and to Rosa Floral Designs, who raised £725 by selling pink roses, generously donated by one of her Dutch suppliers.
We actually raised more than £4,430 on the day itself, but as many shops and offices held raffles and competitions money is still coming in and we are now close to having raised £6,500.
All money raised goes directly to fund the exciting and innovative Diet and Lifestyle Study which is taking place in 56 hospitals across the UK, including the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.
The ultimate aim is to develop a vaccine against breast cancer.
This work is being carried out by the Against Breast Cancer Research Team at Westminster University under the leadership of Dr Miriam Dwek and is funded entirely by public donations.
My sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who collected, helped with the stalls and made cakes, with special thanks to the Witney Against Breast Cancer Action Group who organised the day, gave up a lot of time and put in a tremendous amount of effort to make the day so successful.
Last but by no means leasts, thank you to all the people of Witney and the surrounding areas who gave us so much support and donated so generously to Against Breast Cancer.
Jeanne Chattoe, Chairman, Witney Action Team of Against Breast Cancer
