Sir – I feel strongly that West Oxfordshire District Council needs to tweak its recycling collection strategy.

When collection days coincide with strong winds, the black square boxes are not fit for purpose. The other evening while I was driving through Carterton there was “recycling” blowing everywhere and numerous boxes blowing over.

The box lids require either a brick on top or, more practically, use of the netting that some people have been provided with.

I would like to suggest that the council provides every residence with the netting and does not empty boxes that do not use it. Littering is an offence. The council should set a better example in my opinion.
