Plans free up space

Sir – We read with interest your front page lead Spanner in the Works (Witney Gazette, March 7), announcing that the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DFI) had advised West Oxfordshire District Council that it is likely to need only 200 new family homes in central Carterton rather than 780 as previously envisaged.

Surely this will now free up sufficient space for the future expansion of Carterton within its existing boundaries and without the need to encroach upon the historic village of Brize Norton.

We also trust this will put an end to the highly unpopular east option which contravenes the council’s stated policy of maintaining a clear boundary between Carterton and Brize Norton.
