Venue must be comfy

Sir – The Witney Gazette reported that the Corn Exchange consultation exercise looked at three options.

It sounds like the group got the right one – to remodel the interior. However, the cost will be considerable, so I urge the consultation group and the town council to be clear about what the priorities are, as it is likely they will not get everything they want. This will not be cheap.

It is absolutely crucial that Witney, and the surrounding area, has a publically-available auditorium refurbished to modern standards. That means it should be at least as comfortable as a cinema, if not better, with good seats and leg room.

Witney Community Cinema (formerly The Screen on the Square) has to have the chance to compete on equal terms with Cineworld, and the big audiences that attend the various shows deserve to sit in comfort.

There may be enhancements that make it a better location to manage but the paying customers should be the priority.
