Stop treating village as a rubbish dump

Sir – I’m writing this letter as a means to vent my frustration and abhorrence with society and its apparent moral breakdown.

As a human being I was led to believe that we, as a species, had the power to reason and make complex intricate decisions which, with the aid of rational thought, could provide a stable natural environment for future generations.

This, however, doesn’t seem to apply if you live in a village like Minster Lovell.

I’m constantly dismayed that people from outside the village seem to think that ‘Minster’ should be a general dumping ground for rubbish and a place to vandalise, especially around the meadow and ruins.

I know we lack adequate waste bins in these areas for the rubbish that accumulates due to outside revellers, but that is no excuse to defecate in the ruins and to turn a beauty spot into an eyesore.

I’m proud of my village, as are many other community-minded individuals, but if these people can’t obey a few courtesy rules – like taking their rubbish home with them – then they should stay away.
