CHARLBURY Amateur Dramatic Society turns back the clock to wartime East London for its new production this week.

Wind in the Roses is a musical play set in a corner of Bethnal Green during the German Blitz bombing raids between September 1940 and May 1941.

Written by Stephen Nash, who teaches piano at Great Tew School, the play centres on the lives of ordinary people caught up in a war that changed things forever, and of the enduring nature of the human spirit amid suffering.

The show includes songs that kept up wartime morale, such as Roll Out the Barrel and We’ll Meet Again.

Wind in the Roses, which runs from tomorrow until Saturday at the Memorial Hall, in Brown's Lane, is a family show and suitable for young school age children.

Performances are at 7.30pm daily, plus a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets are priced £9 and £7 for concessions. They can be bought in advance at Cotswold Frames and Charlbury Post Office, both in Market Street, or call the box office on 01608 810896.
