Inspired by great town

A MAJOR visual art extravaganza is being planned in Woodstock from Tuesday, October 23, to Sunday, October 28. The aim of the event is to showcase both local talent and work by visiting professional artists.

This exciting initiative will see the whole town transformed by a celebration of visual arts, art and photographic competitions. There will also be competitions for local schools.

Many of the shops in Woodstock will also be taking part by displaying individual art exhibitions in their shops and restaurants. An art display will also be erected in the town square, where visitors are invited to contribute too.

To help get the show on the road, organisers are calling for entries for the photographic competition. They believe that by announcing it now, camera enthusiasts have plenty of time to get out into the town and start looking for images which encapsulate the spirit of Woodstock.

The theme of the photographic competition is Inspired by Woodstock. Organisers hope to spark photographers imagination with this theme, which could take in architecture, landscape, people or something that the photographer believes reflects the spirit of the town and its community.

All entrants' work will be featured on the Art in Woodstock website, and the finalist will have their pictures exhibited in the town.

The competition is sponsored by Samsung, which has donated a magnificent Samsung GX10 Digital SLR, with 10MP, anti-shake technology, and dust-protection technology, with two lenses, an 18-55mm and 50-200mm zoom lens, for the winner.

The runner up will receive a Samsung NVG Digital camera.

Closing date for submissions is September 14. For full details, go to www.artinwoodstock.com, and select entry submission. You do not have to be a resident of Woodstock to enter.
