Open day promotes motorcycling

AN open day to promote motorcycling is being held today in Aylesbury.

The open day in Kingsbury, Aylesbury, to promote motorcycling and the responsible use of motorcycles is being run by Thames Valley Police Roads Policing Department, in association with Buckinghamshire County Council and the Bucks Motorcycle Forum.

The event is being supported by local business and professional road and track schools from Buckinghamshire. There will also be displays by the Safer Roads Partnership, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue service and South Central Ambulance service.

Also on display will be a collection of vintage motorcycles as well as more modern bikes.

PC Darren Carnell, of Aylesbury Roads Policing Department, said: "The event is open to anyone, including people interested in getting into biking; those with more experience and anyone who wants to come along and see any of the organisations, bikes and many stalls available on the day.

"The Thames Valley Roads Policing Department is committed to making the roads safer for everyone who uses them.

"Safer Rider aims to keep motorcyclists safe on the roads with valuable information about how to steer clear from danger.

"Between January and December 2007, 21 motorcyclists were killed on the roads of Thames Valley.

"If you are a motorcyclist, you make up less than one per cent of the traffic, but account for over 20 per cent of road deaths."

For further information, please contact PC Carnell via Thames Valley Police on the 24-hour non-emergency number, 0845 8 505 505.
