COMMENT: No better time to show support for the services

BETTY Sowerby and Kieran Butler may be generations apart but they are united in one common cause – supporting our armed forces personnel.
Betty, 87, and Kieran, 16, are selling poppies for The Royal British Legion.
Today we report how the charity has provided vital support for former and serving personnel.
From lifeline grants to benefits and money advice to helping soldiers set up their own businesses, the work of the RBL is crucial.
With its strong military links, Oxfordshire has done the RBL proud, raising more than £490,000 through last year’s appeal.
This year it is aiming to raise £540,000 and the Oxford Mail today calls on everyone to show their support by wearing a poppy.
It has never been a more apt time to show support for these brave men and women.
The charity’s work is brought into sharp focus when you consider the devastating loss to Didcot’s bomb disposal unit 11 EOD Regiment, six people in three years in Afghanistan.
