RESIDENTS were last night urged to be prepared for more flooding as heavy rain is forecast to batter the county again today.

The Met Office was last night forecasting up to 10mm of heavy rain from about 9am through to about 3pm today.

It comes after a weekend which prompted further flooding fears as rain fell on already saturated ground.

The Environment Agency (EA) yesterday morning removed the Thames from Flood Warning north of Oxford.

But last night flood warnings were still in place for the River Thames and tributaries in Oxford including Binsey, Osney, New Botley, New Hinksey, and Grandpont.

Warnings were also in place for the River Thames at Abingdon, Culham, Kennington, Sandford and Radley, from Days Lock to South Stoke.

So too was the River Thame in Dorchester and Overy areas.

EA spokesman Lewis Brown said: “The levels on the Thames will remain high over the next few days.

“But overall we expect to see the number of flood alerts and flood warnings come off over the next few days.”

He said flood defences would remain in Osney Island and Vicarage Road this week.

Three homes in Marlborough Road, Grandpont, and two in South Hinksey flooded on Friday.

On Saturday, Thames Water said drains had been “overwhelmed” by the recent rain.

The river level at Iffley Lock was 0.53m at 4.30pm yesterday – down from 0.58m on Saturday, 0.67m on Friday and 0.72m on Thursday.

Its usual height is up to 0.22 metres.
