STAFF and shoppers at The Co-operative supermarket in Witney High Street raised almost £4,700 for New Yatt Riding for the Disabled and the Friends of the Elms Day Centre last year.

The groups were chosen by staff at the store as their charities of the year.

They have organised a secondhand book stall and a number of other fundraising events over the past 12 months, raising a total of £4,696, which was divided equally between the two charities.

New Yatt Riding for the Disabled (NYRDA) plans to use its share to buy a new pony or horse.

Members of the group visited the shop just before Christmas to receive the donation and the Co-op Challenge Cup, which will be presented to the winner of the riding group’s annual dressage contest.
