THE Kingham Plough pub is basking in a golden glow after taking top honours in the annual Cotswold Tourism Awards.

The pub and restaurant won the gold award as tourism pub of the year. The organisers said: “The Plough is the winner because local people actually go there, visitors love it and standards are high across the board.”

Chef Emily Watkins, who has run the pub with her husband Miles Lampson since 2007, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled. I thought what they said about us was really nice.”

The pub and other gold award winners will now contest Visit England’s national awards.

And the Lamb Inn, in Burford, was named as the silver award winner in the small hotel category, matching its achievement in Tourism South East’s 2012 Beautiful South Awards for Excellence last November.

The Cotswold Tourism awards are open to attractions and businesses in the West Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire Cotswolds.
