A MAN has been told to pay £2,370 in damages after knocking out a teenager’s teeth.

David Wilton, 24, of Lawton Avenue, Carterton, avoided jail after admitting causing actual bodily harm on a night out in Witney.

He headbutted Joshua Percival, 18, in the toilets of Izi nightclub, in Market Square, on October 21, knocking out three of his teeth.

His victim, who is also from Carterton, has so far had to pay £2,370 for dental treatment and may have further bills in the future.

Wilton, who works as a manager for Oxfordshire software firm VTUK, was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for two years at Oxford Crown Court on Monday.

Judge Gordon Risius also ordered him to pay the full cost of Mr Percival’s treatment so far, as well as compensation and £100 costs.

He said: “This was in any view a serious assault which has already had a substantial effect on Mr Percival’s health and wellbeing and those of his parents.

“But an immediate custodial sentence would result in the loss of your employment and a consequent loss of income.”

He added that one reason for not sending Wilton straight to prison was so he could repay his victim for the harm he had inflicted.

Matthew Corrie, defending, said his client had no previous convictions and felt he had been provoked by his victim.

Wilton was also made subject to a curfew from 9pm to 6am and told to do 150 hours of unpaid work.
