Oxfordshire County Council’s head of transport is certainly in straight-talking mode when it comes to the A40.

We welcome his refreshing frankness in an age when politicians all too often worry about upsetting anyone.

His argument – that better infrastructure can’t come without more housing – is certainly food for thought.

As a county we need to decide what is most important to us, because we can’t have it both ways. With seemingly never ending Government spending cuts, the money has to come from somewhere.

And if you’re not prepared to reach into your own pocket, you may have to put up with another few hundred houses down the road.
