STUDENTS from a Witney school jumped out of nowhere to surprise shoppers with a tune from their up-coming show.

Staging a ‘flash mob’, about 30 pupils from Henry Box School hid behind corners near the Woolgate Shopping Centre, Witney, before springing out to perform a song and dance from their production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The flashmob then disappeared as quickly as it arrived.

Production assistant Helen Hawkins, an English teacher at the school, said: “Rather than putting posters around Witney we wanted to do some marketing. I think everyone was quite excited – they didn’t know what was going on. People seemed to enjoy it and we have had lots of positive feedback.”

The cast of about 45 pupils, aged 11 to 19, has been rehearsing since September. The show runs from March 20 to 23.
