Water bosses to face customers over flooding advice

THAMES Water bosses will visit Oxfordshire residents worst affected by sewer flooding to try to improve relations.

The company said its communication with customers “could have been better” and said its flood bus visits would enable managers to meet customers face-to-face.The bus visited Carterton and Standlake on Friday and will return today from 10.30am at Standlake Post Office in High Street and 1.30pm at the Carterton Co-op in Black Bourton Road.

Thames Water director of operations Bob Collington said: “Some of our customers have had a horrendous time over the past few months as we’ve been dealing with the effects of the wettest year on record in England.

“Our communication with customers could have been better.”

He added: “We have been extraordinarily busy dealing with serious flooding problems in a very large number of towns and villages.

“Our focus has been on sorting out problems with pipes and pumps, in order to try to protect homes, and we haven’t always found enough time for customers. We are turning this around now and these roadshows are a way for us to meet face-to-face with customers and listen to what they have to say.”

The bus will run for a two week period, but demand could mean this is extended.
