Carterton and Witney Save the Children branch celebrates 40th anniversary
A HUSBAND and wife team celebrated with a big “birthday bash” as the branch of Save the Children they set up reached its 40th anniversary.
Graham Evans and his wife Pauline started the group in 1973 and it was the first in the west of the county.
Since its formation the Carterton, Witney & District branch has raised more than £1.2m, and is still going strong.
Mr Evans said: “It has been a great 40 years and we have a lot of people involved in the branch now.
“I'm glad I decided to do it all those years ago, as we have managed to raise so much for the cause.
“It has played a big part in our lives.
“We have a good bunch of people who are part of the branch and they are young and energetic so hopefully there will be another 40 years.”
The party was held at the Elderbank Hall, in Brize Norton, last Saturday.
If you would like to get involved with the group, call Mrs Evans, who is the branch secretary, on 01993 842983.
