Staff go and machine moves in

MACHINES will replace people under plans for a payment kiosk at Witney’s Town Centre Shop.
West Oxfordshire District Council wants to install a kiosk at its Welch Way unit to replace two staff.
Two of the three cashiers who take council payments retire this year and councillors have been urged by officers to approve the bid at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
A council report says: “With this natural reduction in staff, the opportunity has arisen to review how the service operates and the resource levels required.”
The kiosk would cost £13,311 to £21,346 to install with ongoing costs of £1,190 to £2,500-a-year. Councillors will finalise costings on Wednesday. The report suggests the machine could cut waiting times.
