THRILL-seekers joined families as the Witney Feast returned to the town yesterday.
The annual two-day funfair on The Leys, behind St Mary’s Church, saw hundreds of people attend to try out rides and stalls.
Sarah Edwards, 44, from Witney, has been attending the Witney Feast since she was a child.
Yesterday, she visited with her father Fred, 72, and son Freddie, five, getting not to get soaked on a ride.
She said: “It was really good fun. The kids really look forward to it and the grown ups look forward to it as well. We have gone every year since I was a little girl and you always meet people you know. It is a very social thing.”
Witney Feast dates back 770 years and began originally when Henry III granted two deer to celebrate the rededication of St Mary’s Church.
Today, it is known for the funfair, but church events, which began on Saturday, still form a major part of the festivities.
On Sunday, The Bishop of Oxford, the Rt Rev John Pritchard, led a special Sunday service on the gallopers in the fairground. The fair ends today.
