Man admits food raid after hero tackles him
10:00am Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
A man stopped by a have-a-go hero has admitted trying to steal more than £400 of food.
At Banbury Magistrates’ Court yesterday, James Wells, 42, of Cornish Road, Chipping Norton, pleaded guilty to the theft from Sainsbury’s, in Oxford Road, Kidlington, on September 3.
Last Tuesday the Oxford Mail told how Thomas Reeve, 31, from Kirtlington, had tackled Wells, kneeling on him until other members of staff and then police arrived.
The court was told Wells had a previous conviction for a similar offence in 2011 and was given an 18-month conditional discharge, which had expired.
Magistrates deferred sentencing to Oxford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
