Woman died after surgery at John Radcliffe, inquest told

A 77-year-old woman died following surgery at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital, an inquest heard.

Mary Newitt, of Wadard’s Meadow, Witney, was admitted to hospital with abdominal pains on April 18 and had surgery to remove gallstones from her bile duct on April 23.

The inquest at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court heard that her condition deteriorated following the operation and she died on April 26 of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas.

Assistant coroner Nicholas Graham recorded a narrative verdict.
