A SCHOOL is celebrating after it jumped up a level in Ofsted’s ratings.

Finstock Primary School was rated good by inspectors after a visit last month.

The Church of England school, in School Road, was last inspected in February last year, when it was found to be satisfactory.

However, concerns were raised by the inspectors that some teaching was not of “a consistently good quality”.

Lead inspector Alwyne Jolly said in the report on the visit in September, published last week: “The quality of teaching has improved since the last report, where it was criticised in reception and years one and two.

“Pupils make a good contribution to the community by raising money for charity and discussing ways to improve the school in the school council meetings.”

Headteacher Jean Roden said: “Our Christian values-based education creates an atmosphere of respect and care for each other.

“Pupils have enthusiasm and enjoyment for learning.

“They understand what their strengths are and share these strengths with their peers. They know their targets for improvement and how to improve.

“We are a small school with 57 pupils.

“Volunteers from the community, parents and carers, committed staff and governors ensure that all children get the best possible support in every aspect of social and academic development.”
