OXFORD United supporters and former Milk Cup- winning players will join forces for the Yellow Army’s Big Walk tomorrow.

Former Manor Ground stars Les Phillips and Alan Judge will tomorrow unite with fans for a walk to the Kassam Stadium, before United’s home match against Morecambe.

Proceeds from the Big Walk will be split between the East Oxford-based children’s hospice, Helen and Douglas House, and the Yellow Army.

The Yellow Army was formed this summer to bring United fans and the various supporters’ groups together, while also raising cash for Oxford’s players transfer kitty.

Trevor Lambert, treasurer of the 12th man group, Oxvox chairman Mark Sennett, Joe Nicholls of the Yellow Army, and Charlie Methven, trustee of the Oxford United Youth and Community Trust, will lead fans from four different Oxfordshire locations.

Mr Lambert will walk to the satdium from Eynsham, along with Oxford’s former goalkeeper Alan Judge who played in United’s 1986 League Cup winning team.

Alan famously became the seventh oldest footballer to ever appear in the Football League, when he played for Oxford, aged 44, in November 2004. After he retired he worked as a driving instructor and as a goalkeeping coach at several clubs.

Mr Sennett will lead a team, including former Oxford midfielder Les Phillips, from Woodstock.

He will meet Mr Nicholls, walking from Cholsey, and Mr Methven, from Thame, before Saturday’s 3pm kick off.

Les, who played for Oxford from 1984 to 1993, lives in Woodstock now works as a van driver, said: “I’ve got so many great memories of my playing days at Oxford and absolutely love the club. It’s good give something back. “I enjoyed the walk to Wycombe last year, so I’m looking forward to it and hope as many fans as possible get involved to help raise money for a good cause.”

Mr Sennett said: “The Milk Cup winners are legends and have a great affinity for the fans. They never hesitate to get involved and it makes it more fun for supporters to take part if they can walk along with their heroes.”

Mr Sennett said it was not worried by the big freeze that gripped the county over the last few days.

He said: “Once you have walked 26 miles to Wycombe, you don’t really worry about anything.”

Headington resident Mr Lambert said: “If it goes to plan, it should take about three-and-a-half hours. We will start at around 9am and hope to be at the stadium from our different locations just before 1pm. It’s going to be fantastic to walk with Alan Judge. “It’s a great opportunity to meet someone you have always looked up to. It’s great that him and Les are keen to help the club in any way they can.”
