SHAKESPEARE’S Macbeth has been rewritten by students at Chipping Norton School.

The Young Shakespeare Company performed ‘the Scottish Play’ there on Tuesday, but kept stopping to ask their audience how they should be doing it.

Predictably this resulted in some unusual interpretation’s of the Bard’s work.

Michael Justice, 29, who played the part of Macbeth, said: “We give the students the opportunity to tell us how they think scenes should be staged and how characters should be played to give them insights into the script.

“Suggestions range from the ridiculous to the inappropriate.”

He added: “I think someone suggested that Lady Macbeth seduce Macbeth to get her way, which always gets a giggle,.”

The company was booked by English teacher Clare Summers to perform for year 11 students who are studying the play.

She said: “They were incredibly impressive and they inspired the students to get into the text more.

“One student told me it made her consider taking drama further.”
