SENIOR councillors have raised concerns about plans to move Witney’s Post Office.
West Oxfordshire District Council claims it has not received any details from the Post Office of how it plans to operate a branch from the town’s WH Smith store.
The council also said its request for layout plans had not yet been met.
Cabinet member for economy and communities Richard Langridge said: “We have huge concerns regarding the Post Office’s proposed move to the WH Smith store in the Woolgate Centre and the detrimental impact it could have on regular users that depend on its services.
“WH Smiths in Woolgate is very busy and often packed with shoppers and so it’s difficult to see how Witney Post Office will retain and deliver all its current services in a much smaller space, especially as it’s so well used by residents and local businesses.
“The elderly and those with mobility issues will almost certainly struggle to navigate the store, and they are often the most reliant on post office services.
“Witney residents and Post Office users have expressed their opposition to the plans and we are writing again to the Post Office as our biggest concern now is, have our voices been heard and what will happen next?”
