A FLOOD alert has been issued for the River Thames through Oxford this evening, covering the section from Wolvercote to Radley.

The Environment Agency has also issued alerts for the following, as heavy rain continues to swell rivers:

  • The River Cherwell and its tributaries from Charwelton to Heyford on flood alert, including Cropredy, Banbury, Kings Sutton and Hook Norton
  • The Langford and Wendlebury Brooks and their tributaries from Stratton Audley to the M40 near Merton, including Bicester and Wendlebury
  • The Sor Brook and the Bloxham Brook and their tributaries from Horley and Bloxham to Adderbury

Alerts were issued earlier today and last night for the following Oxfordshire watercourses:

  • River Thame and Chalgrove Brook
  • River Evenlode from Moreton-in-Marsh to Cassington
  • River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock
  • River Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon
  • River Ray and its tributaries from Shipton Lee to Islip
  • River Thames and tributaries from Buscot Wick to Kings Lock, near Wolvercote, including Buscot, Kelmscott, Radcot, Chimney, Northmoor, Stanton Harcourt, Bablock Hythe and caravan park, Eynsham, Swinford and Yarnton
  • River Windrush, from Bourton-on-the Water to Newbridge, including Burford, Asthall, Minster Lovell, Crawley, Witney, Ducklington, Rack End and Standlake
  • River Cole along the county boundary with Wiltshire from Shrivenham to Buscot Wick, including Watchfield and Coleshill
  • Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney
  • Ginge Brook, from the Steventon area down to and including Sutton Courtenay
  • Clanfield Brook at Clanfield
  • The Shill Brook at Bampton

A flood alert is the lowest on the Environment Agency's three-stage flood warnings scale, meaning householders and businesses should take precautions.
