A MAN who was convicted of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy has avoided jail.

Tommy Fury, who now lives in Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire after his family moved from The Beeches Caravan Park, near Chipping Norton, was sentenced yesterday at Oxford Crown Court.

The 20-year-old was found guilty by a majority verdict, after a trial in October last year, of performing a sex act on a teenage boy on three occasions in 2011, when Fury was 17.

He was cleared of an indecent assault on another teenage boy, who it was alleged he had kissed on the neck.

Charles Ward-Jackson, prosecuting, said there was evidence that Fury had bought alcohol for his young victim, who was drunk when he took advantage of him.

Passing sentence, Judge Gordon Risius said the crimes had not come to light until 18 months later, when the defendant contacted the teenager by text message.

He said Fury told his victim he wanted a “repeat performance” of the abuse and threatened to reveal what had happened if he did not agree to meet.

Judge Risius said: “You decided to take advantage of him to satisfy our own sexual urges. It has had a very serious impact not only on your victim but also on his family.”

Peter Du Feu, defending, said Fury continues to deny that the abuse took place. He added that his family had moved out of the area because of the “disparaging and unkind remarks” they received after the verdict.

Fury was sentenced to a two-year community order with a supervision requirement and a one-month curfew requirement. He was also made subject to a sex offences prevention order.
