THE 73-year-old cyclist who died in floods at Godstow Road, Wytham, on Wednesday has been named as Ian Taylor.

Mr Taylor, of Abbey Road, West Oxford, was airlifted to hospital after falling into the flood water and later died.

In a statement, his wife Karen Jackson said Mr Taylor was an active man in good health who cycled daily and swam regularly.

The former international management consultant moved to Oxford from Durham with his wife in 2006.

Friend and former colleague Nigel Barlow said: "He was vibrant, brilliant and caring, with a formidable interest in current affairs and technology. He is a great loss to many of us."

Another friend, Rob Maguire, added: "He was a man who created communities wherever he went."

Mr Taylor's wife thanked those who came to his aid, the emergency services, and staff at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

An inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned on Tuesday.

There is no date set for the funeral yet.
