A WITNEY playground has been given £30,000 after being shortlisted for a Field In Trust award.

Burwell Recreation Ground has been given the money from the SITA Trust and Chill-Out Fund to buy new play equipment, benches and safety flooring.

The equipment, including a 30ft-long zipwire, is being installed in the public playground over the next few weeks.

Claire Swan, facilities manager at Witney Town Council, said: “SITA recognises the importance of outdoor play and this funding has allowed us to achieve a project that will be of benefit for years to come.

“Hopefully the weather will not slow us down and everything will be completed by the end of March.”

Witney Town Council received the funds after being shortlisted for a Field in Trust award.

SITA uses landfill cash to support good causes.
