A ROOFER has appeared in Oxford Crown Court and denied engaging in aggressive and misleading commercial practices in Carterton.

John Watson, of Bedmond Road, Abbots Langley, in Hertfordshire, pleaded not guilty to five charges yesterday.

It is alleged he engaged in aggressive commercial practices in Carterton in February last year, firstly by telling a customer he had to carry out work because he had already bought the materials. He is also accused of taking part in aggressive commercial practices by taking the roof tiles and felt off part of a house’s roof and exposing the loft without consulting the property’s owner.

Watson denies engaging in misleading commercial practices by carrying out unnecessary work, as well as one count of fraud by claiming the work needed doing and was worth £13,600.

He has also been accused of falsely advertising his business in the Yellow Pages as being Fair Trades approved.

The 36-year-old was released on bail and is due to appear for a trial on August 18 this year.
