SIX-TIME Grammy award-winner Burt Bacharach will be leading the line-up at this year’s Wilderness Festival.

The 85-year-old singer and songwriter will perform at the four-day festival along with Jessie Ware, Sam Smith, Metronomy, and London Grammar.

Organisers have just announced the full line-up for the festival at Cornbury Park near Charlbury in August.

This is the fourth year of the award-winning festival which celebrates nature and features a landscape shaped by art.

Mr Bacharach said: “I’m thrilled to be coming back to the UK again to perform at Wilderness 2014.

“I’ve heard wonderful things about the festival and I’m looking forward to a great time in the Oxfordshire countryside.”

Musicians Gregory Porter, Submotion Orchestra and Soak will also be joining revellers at the home of Lord and Lady Rotherwick, from Thursday August 7 to Sunday August 10.

Creative director of the Wilderness Festival Jo Vidler said: “Tickets are selling very fast and we’re very optimistic about this year’s festival.

“Our early bird tickets are all sold out already. We are looking to have 20,000 spectators this year.

“In 2013, we completely sold out two weeks before the event.

“The festival has definitely come on over the past four years and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Top chefs Simon Rogan, Angela Hartnett and Russell Norman will be at the festival at dining tents.

The event will feature wilderness cookery classes, talks from the Huffington Post and spa sessions.

A wide range of tickets are available for the festival and tickets cost £143.50 for the weekend.

Ms Vidler said: “The Wilderness festival is all about bringing the forest to life. The whole point of the festival is to go back to nature.

“This year will be a lovely party. There are so many little things you can do.

“I think the site is beautiful and the key thing for the festivalgoers is that you can go straight out into the countryside.

“We’ve decided to bring our cookery school in house. There will be bread making, demonstrations and cookery classes at the festival.

“There’s a meteor shower that weekend, and we will take people into the forest to watch it.

“There will be a full moon on the Sunday. There will be loads to do.”

MUSIC LEGEND

ONE of the most accomplished popular composers of the 20th century, Burt Bacharach is best known for his songwriting partnership with lyricist Hal David.

Born in Kansas City in 1928, Bacharach studied cello, drums and piano starting at the age of 12.

When he was 15 started a 10-piece jazz band with his schoolmates.

In 1957, Bacharach collaborated for the first time with Hal David after they met while working at the Famous Paramount Music Company in New York’s legendary Brill Building.

The pair enjoyed success straight away. Perry Como’s Magic Moments reached number eight in 1958.

Bacharach met Dionne Warwick, who could tackle his most complex melodies.

Bacharach and David wrote 20 top 40 hits for her including Anyone Who Had a Heart, Walk On By and I Say A Little Prayer.

Their other songs include Close To You, Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head and What's New Pussycat?
