KEEN gardeners have been sprucing up the grounds of the Henry Cornish Care Centre in Chipping Norton.

The residents prepared themselves for spring with help by the team from Topiarus Horticulture.

Manager Matthew Jackman offered to assist the care home residents with their garden to mark his firm’s 10th anniversary. The team prepared high-rise beds and planted flowers and plants.

Gardener Tom Bartlett said: “It has been great to spend the day improving the garden and getting it ready for spring. The garden will be ready for the residents to enjoy once the sun comes out and it stops raining.”

Judy Houghton, 89, enjoyed getting stuck in with the gardening project. She said: “The gardeners from Topiarus Horticulture did a great job and the garden looks lovely now. Now they have cleared the two high rise beds we can get out and put our summer salad veg in.

“It will be so nice to get out in the garden in the summer.”

Activities co-ordinator Sylvia Evans said: “Gardening is very therapeutic and something a lot of our residents really like to do. It’s a hobby they have done throughout their lives and continue to enjoy here. We are very lucky to have an internal courtyard with a beautiful garden they can use when they like.

“Everyone really enjoys the garden, particularly in summer, and we are preparing for better weather by planting some ferns and preparing the veggie plots.”
