PEDAL power produced banana smoothies as part of a campaign to promote fair trade.
The Witney Area Fairtrade Action Group held a day of action at the High Street Methodist Church to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight.
People could make their own smoothie drinks by powering a blender from pedalling on the static bike, and were treated to entertainment from the Songscope children’s choir.
Chairwoman Wendy Maddison said: “The smoothie bike was great fun and very popular with the children.
“The people of Witney showed their enthusiasm for fair trade.”
About 50 people signed a postcard that will be sent to the Government’s Business Secretary, Vince Cable, asking him to investigate the price of bananas in supermarkets and the impact this has on the amount paid to banana growers in developing countries.
It also raised more than £900 from selling Fairtrade produce provided by supermarkets, including the Co-op, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer, and a stall of cakes and cream teas.
