WEST Oxfordshire now has a second food bank to help struggling families make ends meet.

Carterton mayor Lynn Little helped set up the service which she says could help about 50 families in the town.

The food bank opened on Monday at the Pavilion in Alvescot Road Recreation Ground. It is the second in the district – Prime Minister David Cameron’s constituency – after one was set up in Witney about two years ago.

Mrs Little said: “There have been about 50 families who are travelling to Witney to use the food bank and I just wanted to do something which would help them not have to go so far for help. This is a temporary solution as this location is just for the time being.

“I have had a lot of support from our county councillors.

“This is something for the community of Carterton. We want to be able to help people learn to manage their budget, as that can often be the reason behind people getting into difficulties.”
