SAY HELLO to the new Miss Oxfordshire. Amelia Watt was crowned at Witney Lakes on Friday night for a second time after a year-long break.
The 24-year-old who lives in James Street, East Oxford, said: “I was completely overwhelmed. I struggled to raise the £200 sponsorship to enter this year so I put out a plea on Facebook and Twitter and I have been supported by so many people.
“The first year I did it I just had the best time, it was amazing for my confidence, I did so many things I wouldn’t normally do and the people I met were fantastic.”
In 2012, Miss Watt, who is now studying for a masters degree in business management at Oxford Brookes University, entered the Miss England competition, but did not place.
On Friday, Miss Watt also won the contest’s charity award, while Shirin Olivia won the popularity award. Runners-up were Hannah Everett and Lucy Treadwell.
The competition prompted controversy this year when model Georgia Eden, 22, from Abingdon, was ruled out of the contest after posting a topless ‘selfie’ picture online to show her support for a breast cancer charity.
