SIX-YEAR-OLD Alice West was among people from Ducklington who were out enjoying Fritillary Sunday.

The celebration, which sees the owners of Fritillary Meadow, the Peel family, open up their land for walkers to come and see Fritillary wildflowers.

Handbell ringers also perform at St Bartholemew’s Church, Church Street, as well as morris dancers.

Alice said: “The flowers were really pretty and I like the patterns on them.”

Mum Sarah West, 41, said: “It was a lovely day, maybe a bit rainy, but it is always a nice thing to do and there is plenty going on in the village hall too.

“Alice really enjoyed herself.”

Fritillaries were once common in the county and picked and sold.

Other meadows where they can be found in Oxfordshire include Magdalen College, Oxford.

On the day, the church sold cream teas, home-made preserves and plants, including Fritillaries. Money raised will be spent on the building.
