DAVID Cameron was one of the guests at the 11th annual Chadlington Beer Festival on Saturday.

The Prime Minister and Witney MP joined hundreds of visitors at Chadlington Memorial Hall in Chapel Road to raise about £7,000 for Chadlington Primary School.

They could taste 25 types of ale selected from around the country, plus wine, ciders and Pimm’s.

There was a bouncy castle, fairground rides, face painting, barbecue and cake sale.

Organiser Craig Ogden, chairman of the Friends of Chadlington School parent-teacher association, believed it was a record turnout.

He said: “Great effort goes into choosing a really broad range of ales and we get people coming who are real beer aficionados who come from all over because we’ve established a really good reputation.

“There’s no shortage of beer festivals, but ours is the only one I know which is specifically focused on a school.”

Mr Ogden, whose children Gabriel, 11, and Gracie, six, attend the school, said Mr Cameron, who lives in nearby Dean, dropped by after taking his son to play football at Chadlington Sports Club.

He said: “I didn’t see him drinking, but I would be very surprised if he didn’t come and sample something.”

Paul Worth, a transport manager from Enstone, has visited every year since it began with fellow members of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

He said: “The quality of the beer is always very good. They know what they’re doing and it’s a nice small festival with a great atmosphere.”
