FOR the second year running, the Witney Gazette is teaming up with West Oxford-shire District Council and Visit England to find the district’s Tourism Superstar.

The aim is to find an unsung hero working in the tourism trade who ensures visitors to West Oxfordshire have an unforgettable experience.

Last year’s contest was won by Walter Stewart-Brown, of the Crowne Plaza Heythrop Park Resort, near Enstone, who received his award from Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron.

Mr Stewart-Brown went on to be a finalist in Visit England’s national Tourism Superstar competition.

Richard Langridge, the council's cabinet member for local economy, communities and culture, said: “We have some fantastic tourism businesses in West Oxfordshire.

“The Tourism Superstar award is a great way to recognise the people who make the success happen.

“They truly are superstars of our district. We are looking to shine a light on the fantastic range of businesses and individuals involved in tourism, whether the business is large or small, an attraction or accommodation provider, a tour guide or an events company.”

Businesses are being asked to nominate someone who is welcoming, friendly and passionate about their work in tourism.

The Oxfordshire Cotswolds Tourism Superstar must:

  • Work in a business that welcomes visitors
  • Go above and beyond the call of duty to make the visitor experience one to remember Nominations are open from today until Wednesday, June 25.

They should be emailed to diane.blackwell@westoxon.gov.uk or posted to Diane Blackwell, West Oxfordshire District Council, Woodgreen, Witney, OX28 1NB.
