Mother killed and baby in hospital after crash
9:00am Saturday 14th June 2014 in News
A WOMAN was killed and her infant daughter flown to hospital after a crash on the M40 yesterday.
Police officers were called at 11.20am to the southbound carriageway near junction nine of the motorway after a green Peugeot 406 estate and a red articulated lorry collided.
The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her late 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her daughter, believed to be only a few weeks old and in the back seat, was airlifted to hospital for treatment.
Police confirmed that the driver was her mother.
It was not believed the baby is injured, however she was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The M40 was closed southbound between junctions 10 and 9 and it caused huge tailbacks in the area.
A diversion through Weston-on-the-Green was put in place and during that time queues stretched back up the motorway from junction 10 almost all the way to Banbury.
A police spokesman was unable to say where the mother and child came from and which country the lorry was registered in.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information which may help the police can contact them on 101.
