TOP Gear presenters were yesterday spotted rescuing cars from a ditch and a field near Charlbury.

Photographer Mark Hemsworth snapped James May and Jeremy Clarkson struggling on the side of the B4437 Forest Road yesterday afternoon.

He said Mr May’s silver Peugeot was pulled from a ditch by a recovery vehicle, while Mr Clarkson’s damaged black Peugeot was in a crop field.

Top Gear failed to respond last night when asked what had happened.

Witney Gazette:

  • Jeremy Clarkson, left, and James May at the scene

BBC presenter Mr May was photographed in May when his car broke down at the A40 roundabout in Burford – the town he once said he would carpet-bomb immediately if he ever got into power.

At the time, Mr May was filming for the new series of the motoring show which is due to air next year.

Someone on the DM website has complained because they 'crashed' at the site of their relative's fatal head-on - every respect for them, but on this County's roads, you would be pressed NOT to impinge upon someone's grief by using a particular stretch of road to demonstrate something .... I also don't like verge-side shrines as I think they get tackier and more distracting ... and yes, I have mourned friends at roadsides and if safety can be improved by public pressure, then all to the good ...

So Clarkson & Co gaffe up yet once more, no new surprises there. Lets face it Clarkson is known to be an idiot and May, well May couldn't win a raffle even he was the only person who bought tickets..

As for the comment above about road side shrines, well right now try telling that to the good people of Witney who are still mourning their recent tragic loss. Add to that the displays outside various Royal establishments at the equally tragic passing of Diana. Sue Hook, if people want to do their thing then please let them, it is nobodies right to criticize mourning of lost and loved ones. No flowers or headstones for you then.
