A FORK-LIFT truck driver has been convicted of trying to meet and have sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Kacper Belzek, of Burwell Drive, Witney, was found guilty after a trial of one count of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence between September 21 and October 2 last year.

The 24-year-old was accused of planning to meet the teenage complainant after they exchanged about 800 messages over the internet.

During a four-day trial, Belzek argued he had been angry at the girl for initially lying about her age and claiming she was 16, before eventually revealing she was 14.

He told a jury at Oxford Crown Court he kept sending the girl sexually explicit messages after he learned her true age to lead her on, in revenge for being lied to.

But the jury unanimously found him guilty yesterday.

Judge Patrick Eccles told Belzek he was facing a prison sentence.

He said: “You will have to come back to court to be sentenced, but in the meantime a pre-sentence report will be prepared about you by probation.

“As a result of your conviction you are now somebody who could be sentenced to a term of imprisonment.”

Belzek was released on bail and is due to return to Oxford Crown Court to be sentenced on August 26.
