A DUAL carriageway has been re-opened after a three-car crash which seriously injured a male driver.

The A40 was re-opened in both directions at about 4.45pm today after a red Ford Mondeo, silver Mercedes and grey Peugeot crashed at about 1pm near Barnard Gate.

Three people were taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment – one with serious leg injuries.

There had been congestion on the road to the B4022 Witney East and to the B4449 Eynsham Roundabout after Thames Valley Police officers closed the road causing tailbacks to Long Hanborough.

Earlier this afternoon Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service used hydraulic cutting gear to free the trapped man.

South Central Ambulance Service sent the Thames Valley Chiltern air ambulance, two ambulances and an ambulance officer who is treating two patients.

A witness at the scene said the accident happened where the A40 carriageway narrowed near Eynsham.
