ROCK star Alex James and chef Jamie Oliver joined 16,000 festival-goers in hailing their Big Feastival “the best yet”.

The two celebrities took to the stage yesterday afternoon to thank the crowd and take a “selfie” of themselves and the audience.

Former Blur bassist Mr James hosts and helps to organise the three-day event at his farm just outside Kingham, near Chipping Norton, Mr Oliver, who gave cooking demonstrations in the festival’s Big Kitchen, described the event as “incredible”, while Mr James said: “I have had the best time of my whole life.”

Highlights of the weekend included headline sets by superstar DJ Fatboy Slim and Jamie Cullum and performances from hip-hop star Kelis and Oxford folk-pop act Stornoway.

The event, now in its fourth year, also attracted famous faces like the Prime Minister’s wife Samantha Cameron, former F1 racing driver David Coulthard, dance music artist Example and Supergrass star Danny Goffey.

Skyfall actress Naomie Harris, X-Men actor Jason Flemyng and TV stars Amanda Holden, Anthea Turner and Zoe Ball were also spotted at the event.

Also enjoying the event were the former editor of The Sun newspaper, Rebekah Brooks, and her racehorse trainer husband Charlie, who live in nearby Sarsden.

Food celebrities included Masterchef: The Professionals judge Monica Galetti, Dragons' Den star and Reggae Reggae Sauce creator Levi Roots, Jamie Oliver’s mentor Gennaro Contaldo, Rachel Khoo, Gizzi Erskine, Mark Hix, Emily Watkins of the nearby Kingham Plough inn, and model-turned cook Daisy Lowe.

Among other stars making appearances were children’s TV personalities Justin Fletcher and Mr Bloom, and BBC TV Countryfile presenter and Cotswold Farm Park owner Adam Henson.

DJ Fatboy Slim – aka Norman Cook – was joined at the event by his wife Zoe Ball, and told the Oxford Mail that he had just flown back from Ibiza to appear at the festival in West Oxfordshire, describing it as “amazing.”

Taking to the stage to wild applause after the DJ’s Saturday night set, a smiling Alex James joked: “Well that was rubbish, wasn’t it? All back to mine!”

Talking yesterday, he said: “It has been an absolutely fantastic weekend – the best Big Feastival yet.

“My personal highlight was getting on stage with Jamie Oliver and the Cuban Brothers. Great things happen when we get together. Roll on 2015, when we’ve got even bigger things in store.

“I can’t wait to get on with planning it now.”

Enjoying the food on offer was musician Rory Kirkpatrick, 25, from East Oxford, who said: “I’ve had a great time.

“I saw loads of bands and tried some fantastic food. It’s a beautiful site and unlike any other festival I’ve been to. There’s a great family atmosphere. I would definitely come again.”
