A SINGER from Witney hopes a national competition could help launch her career on stage.

Witney resident Becki Reed, 23, is in the south west regional final of the Open Mic UK competition.

She will be up against about 20 other performers on Sunday hoping to land a place in the national final.

Miss Reed, a singing teacher of Cherry Tree Way, said: “It’s really exciting. I want to be a professional singer and I hope this will help me.’’ About 9,000 people entered the competition, but she got through auditions for the over-21 category after singing Norah Jones’ Turn Me On.
